Group and the North West Internet Exchange (NWIX).
Internet Central was founded in 1995 in Nantwich Cheshire, making us one of the
first dedicated Internet Service Providers in the UK.
Now well established in the UK, Internet Central is one of the few remaining
original independent business ISP's. Internet Central re-located it’s offices
and data centre in 2001 and is now based on the Keele University Science Park in
Staffordshire and is strategically placed centrally to serve the UK market, with
our own carrier independent network currently spanning Staffordshire and
Cheshire our ability to provide services in the local area is second to none.
Internet Central is also an early adopter of BT’s 21CN network and is therefore
well positioned to provide high quality internet connectivity services
throughout the UK.
In January 2001 Internet Central was awarded an individual 'non-PTO, with code
powers' telecommunications licence by the DTI. This licence enables Internet
Central to build its own communications infrastructure independently from other
licensed operators. As a result today we can provide low cost connectivity and
resilient circuits - allowing flexible solutions to our customers with a high
level and quality of service from our PoP’s in Crewe, Hanley, Keele, Mow Cop,
Stoke-on-Trent and Manchester.
We are members of the Internet Service Providers Association (ISPA) and Reseaux
IP Europeans (RIPE), Communications and Internet Services Adjudication Scheme
(CISAS) and are actively involved with the DTI and Radio communications agency
(now BERR) ensuring that we keep up to date with the industry and, where
appropriate, help shape it for the future.
As an authorised FortiNet, Cisco, Draytek Vigor, Microsoft & Parrallels reseller
(to name but a few), we are able to provide an extensive portfolio of products
and services. Coupled with our state of the art technology platforms and
extensive industry experience we are able to construct and maintain solutions
tailored for our customers.

Network Overview
Developed and organically grown since our inception in 1995 our network &
service area now spans throughout the UK
We have many years of experience and over the years we have gained and achieved
many goals including:-
-
Licenced Telecomunications Operator (Electronic Code Powers)
Originally a non-PTO licence with code powers issued in 2001 allowed IC to
physically build and operate our own network infrastructure.
-
Diverse network built with Fibre, Copper & Radio / Microwave
Multiple technologies allow for maximum network diversity and resilience with
our own infrastructure currently spanning Staffordshire & Cheshire.
-
Launched IC-air Last mile Microwave / Radio broadband
IC pioneered service provision via radio / microwave, (IC-air) under a test and
development licence from the Radio Authority. Subsequently, representing the ISP
community in getting the original 2.4Ghz (WiFi) frequencies freed and made
available for use by ISPs.
-
Network Diversity
We interconnect with multiple carriers and providers to provide external transit
as well as public peering agreements with other ISPs and carriers either
privately or via a peering exchange such as MaNap for direct data exchange. The
results of our arrangements mean that we can get you routed to your desired
destination quickly, reliably and with minimal hops. The core network is a
combination of cable, fibre and radio / microwave built in a resilient
architecture with our major network nodes located in Keele, Stoke-on-Trent and
Manchester.
-
Best of Breed Hardware
All of our network runs across Cisco core routing and switching equipment so you
can be assured of quality throughout. Our data centres are also all on-line UPS
protected and have generator backup to ensure continuity of service.
-
High Availability
24 Hour monitoring and engineer standby means that we can respond quickly to any
problems around the clock with engineers being automatically notified by email,
SMS and telephone in the event of failures.
-
21CN (21st Century Network) Ready Services
We are now also fully BT 21CN (21st Century Network) connected and are able to
offer the next generation network services and platforms which provide high
availability, high speed & scaleability like never before.
In short IC do not simply resell other carriers services we actually build,
deploy and maintain our own infrastructure and then interconnect with other
carriers where possible to offer our clients the best choices available but
retain as much control over the service levels as possible.
